About Us
The Ice Chamber is founded by Steven Khuong, CSCS and Mayachela (Maya) Garcia, CSCS.  They
are both certified coaches through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), an
international athletic and fitness organization that is also the most respected publisher in exercise
physiology.  Together, Steven and Maya have helped people of all ages and conditions surpass their
fitness goals.  Their clientele spans the entire health spectrum, from the injured to the ultra-fit.  This
list includes actors, musicians, special populations, law enforcement officers, elite athletes, as well
as personal trainers and fitness instructors.
Having earned their undergraduate degrees from the University of California at Berkeley, Steven and
Maya believe in the tradition of applying research in “real world” environments.  They used
themselves as “test-subjects” for every theory, movement, and nutritional curriculum they teach,
ensuring that their clients will “never go where Steve and Maya haven’t been.” By using their personal
experiences from bodyweight conditioning, sports specific training, bodybuilding, martial arts, and
yoga, Steven and Maya took with them what was useful and meaningful, incorporating a training style
that enhances functional capacity while improving physical composition.
With a strong focus on injury prevention, Steven and Maya emphasize the development of power, strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance for every
one of their clients.  They are Master Coaches and Master Trainers with the World Kettlebell Club (WKC, the international governing body for kettlebell
sport), Certified Kettlebell Lifting Coaches with the American Kettlebell Club (the U.S. branch of the WKC), Certified Club Coaches with USA Weightlifting
(USAW, a member of the United States Olympic Committee), Movement Dynamics Teachers with the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation
(IKFF,  a leader in integrative functional training), as well as Level I Coach with USA Track and Field (USATF, the National Governing Body for track and
field, long-distance running in the United States).
By combining superior coaching with safe, sound, and effective exercise programming, Steven and Maya continue to provide their clients the best athletic
fitness training possible.  They are both head coaches of the
Ice Chamber Kettlebell Sport Team, the most successful competition team in the nation.
Steven and Maya are married and spend their down time with son Mateo and dog Paintbrush.
Testimonial:

"The Ice Chamber is dialed
into performance
enhancement and body
efficiency. You can tell that their
goal is to help you perform
better at your sport (as a mixed
martial artist and Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu athlete, I appreciated
their understanding of
combatives and functional
conditioning). I am a HUGE fan
of their philosophy.

On top of being content
experts, Steven and Maya's
enthusiasm is contagious ...
they know how to motivate you
beyond your comfort zone.
Anyone who trains at the Ice
Chamber is going to see big
gains."

We believe that your time spent exercising should have real world application.  For example, it makes little sense
to spend hours on a treadmill, but lack the explosive capacity to sprint away from an attacker. Our training
methodologies ensure that our clients will benefit outside of the gym.  We incorporate functional movements
such as walking, squatting, lunging, running, sprinting, climbing, jumping, throwing, lifting, pressing, pulling, and
swinging.  These movements constitute what we consider a foundation of athletic mobility.  Mastering proper
biomechanics in this domain will enhance your ability to perform physical tasks anywhere, anytime
.
