John- Our Chamber Mill-Around Champ

John Milling

Some of you may have noticed John casually making the mill-around look easy. Newcomers, please don’t be intimidated by this: you should know that John was the three-time state champion in mill-around in college, and he took the silver at the nationals his junior year. Sadly, his mill-around career was cut short just before he went pro by an old shoulder injury that rendered him unable to effectively complete the hands-on-the-hips, sigh-and-shrug part of his routine. Since he joined the Chamber he has worked diligently in personal training to rehab that shoulder, and with the support of his training partner (and life partner) Kim, and the encouragement of his kids, he’s made a real comeback. Now he’s joined the 9:30 a.m. class, where he coaches other members in mill-around. In particular, Peter shows great promise at this challenging technique. Congratulations John- you are a pro in our eyes.

I have to admit that John’s mill tactics are superior. Although that last time I saw Peter, he was doing plenty of mill coaching. Could Peter be sandbagging the king of mill?

  2. Renee says:

lol! I just want to know what you all were laughing at during the 9:30a class on Friday! Although I think John should have his masters in the mill around, his stairstepper is tough…there must have been some real stairs somewhere at that college! Have a fun trip in SD…La Jolla shores for easy surfing, kayaking.

  3. Steven says:

Oh, here we go… The grapes. One of the most tactical (should I say sensitive?) and cutting edge movements on the IC skills list. I, humbly, defer to Kelly.

And by the way, Mrs. Martinez, do you have anything to do with John’s sudden advancement in milling and grape anti-squishing?

  4. Kim says:

Well, you have to give the guy credit – he practices ALL THE TIME. Why, just this morning he was milling behind me as I was slaving over a hot stove. Some might think it looks lazy, but I know that John is always working hard to perfect his milling stance!

I believe he is secretly working on a reclining mill right now (lit ooks very meditative…). Watch him closely for further advances!

  5. Steven says:

We will be purchasing a leather chaise so that John can run a clinic on the reclining mill. It will greatly benefit all the sore Bootcampers.

  6. John says:

My favorite chair is the Concept II.

  7. Renee says:

there’s always a teacher’s pet! nice going, John

  8. Kim says:

Boy, I sure hope Baby K is born soon to save us all from the grape verification process!

We’ll be working on the reclining mill in San Diego, while our teenage son is avidly working on pushups and situps “for the ladies,” as he said! What an altrustic youth!

  9. John says:

Kelly, you made me laugh out loud! Grape intactness?!? I guess it is really too important to leave to the honor system. 10 burpees for a “compromised” grape?

  10. Steven says:

How many burpees would that be for, say, a glass of wine?

  11. Steven says:

Do you get a pass for an honest effort?

  12. John says:

Hmmm, very challenging issues. Steven, as the grape checker, these are judgement decisions that only you can make. As always, I’m sure you will be fair.
