It doesn’t look that high. How hard can jumping intervals be? Oh yes, the deceptive plyometric drills of the IC… After several consecutive reps, you’d swear your legs are made of lead. Soon you feel like you are being asked to leap a very tall building in a single bound, over and over again. But hey, the chamber is in the business of building super-people, so what can we say? Just be glad we don’t make you race a speeding bullet or stop a moving train during the circuit. Speaking of which, what’s your new super power?
of Land Mine.

Lunge through the kettlebell maze. If you touch a kettlebell or lose your balance while lunging, do 50 KB swings.
One workout can do it all. Just ask the 7 a.m. crew this morning.

Thank you to everyone for joining us. Now, you can enjoy the food. Have a great Memorial Day!
What is your favorite distance to race on the ergometer?

What distance do you fear the most?

Why?

El Cerrito Fire Captain Rune Hoyer-Nielsen demonstrates power and skill on the drag sled pull. With his feet planted firmly on the ground, Rune focuses on using his lats, obliques, and arms to tow approximately 200 pounds across the Ice Chamber with a 50 ft. fire hose. Don’t try this at home kids.
Why do we learn to clean, press, and snatch things at the IC? So we can became better baggage handlers? Perhaps in the future, these critical skills will save your back when traveling.
We often practice these skills with medicine balls. However, this is in anticipation for the sand filled baggage you will use at the IC one day. The one pictured above weighs 70lbs., but you can certainly ask your trainer to increase or decrease the weight if you want to give it a shot. Lifting a sandbag is a unique experience as you can probably imagine. The weight of the sand is constantly shifting, requiring you to engage stabilizer muscles not normally used during barbell or dumbbell lifting.
Partnerata interval training is a favorite at the IC. Talk about teamwork and intensity…

Check out Peira and Dave at 6 a.m.

Kristin and Melinda at 7 a.m.

or Shari and Renee at 9:30 a.m.

It’s so addictive that every once in a while you’ll find a straggler trying to join. As Heather and Elisse attempted to complete their set here, we saw an intruder wobbling in (…who is this guy?).
What’s your favorite Partnerata series and who do you usually team with?
Nathalia Worms and Jill Sprague demonstrate that, when put to the challenge, anything is possible if you set your mind to do it. After Friday morning’s Bootcamp, Nathalia easily earned her 1st pull-up.

Meanwhile, our ever so humble powerhouse Jill achieved multiple clapping pull-ups (Steve counted 6 in a row).

Once again, the women of the IC prove that you don’t have to be a badass to be a badass.

The art of milling takes skill, finesse, but most importantly style. Here’s a portrait of 6am in action. Can you name two usual (or unusual) suspects?
