aaah you poor things! nothing is more trying than being sick with baby to take care of! Hopefully you are employing back-up with the little guy. Try Zicam…it really does shorten the length of time. And some kind of sleep aid (Nyquil, tylenol PM) so you can drift off to la la land and stay there for awhile.
For those of us who may be getting exposed…spicy foods tend to ward off the bug.
We miss, miss, miss, miss, miss you!
Only wisdom… this too will pass… AND when it does – you gain an even greater appreciation of the value of health.
(and thank HEAVENS that Ice Chamber has made us all healthier leading to much quicker rebounds!)
A virus is a virus and if you get it, you get it. My only advise is if you are able – slow down EVERYTHING (think zen), take a deep bow of submission to the bug and KNOW you will come back ready to kick ass (and ours).
Two words: FLU SHOT!
Hope any sickies (not sickos) feel better soon!
We miss you guys and hope you are on the road to recovery.
I tend to come down on the preventative end of the spectrum, although I’ve never gotten a flu shot. I am borderline OCD when it comes to washing hands. Especially at the gym, anytime I am near small children (a.k.a. seething petri dishes of bacteria) and all public places. I even use the Clorox Wipes when necessary. That’s why I have dishpan hands (well, you didn’t really think it was from doing dishes, did you?) Oh, and I try to get lots of rest.
I also swear by Chinese mushrooms. Since there are only so many Maitakis and Shitakes I can eat, I take a 7-mushroom complex called Host Defence.
Finally, I like my neti pot for sinus infection/cold avoidance and treatment. Totally gross but very effective.
ahh the Neti pot-very good and effective as well as the flu shot and most everything everyone has listed.
Shari your comment brings to mind an experiment I did in college. We placed our hands into a petri dish and saw what we grew in the incubator. Btw, all the guys were naturally dirty, ha ha!
Clorox wipes with a combination of something alcohol based will kill most of the microbes in those seething areas. Although it’s good for adults, try not to use antimicrobial based products too much around kids, it’s best for them to build up a natural immunity.
The best thing when you get sick…..Rest! Never try fighting it. Plus you don’t want to get everyone around you sick.
Yes, wash your hands. I too was stricken with a very bad stomach virus this past week. My sons now have it and needless to say, our house is a mess! I missed my IC high. Hope you feel better!
Wash your hands all the time and don’t use anti-bacterial soap. Wash your hands with regular soap. Unless you are washing medical-style, for 3 or more minutes, anti-bacterial soaps are not the move.
Homemade chicken noodle soup!
More sleep….
As a virologist, I can say that the best thing for prevention is WASH YOUR HANDS! An not just the front; work up a good lather (do not use “anti-bacterial” soap) and wash front back and between fingers for two rounds of Happy Birthday song to tell you how long to wash for. Sneeze or cough into your elbow, not your hands. Avoid touching your face, especially your mucus membranes (nose and mouth).
Once you get sick there is only not much medically to do; mostly symptomatic relief and comfort measures. Lots of sleep, eat well and drink lots of fluids. LOTS of fluids.
My all time favorite fluid…hot water with lots of lemon, grated ginger and honey. If you have a sore tummy, add half a teaspoon of tumeric.
Thanks for the life saving tips. I owe you all big time.
