Inspired by the last IC workout of the year this morning, Shari has some wonderful insight to share with us all…
Here it is, the end of 2007. And what a year it’s been at the IC. There have been some incredible accomplishments. Records set and broken. Challenges made and met. Feats of superhuman skill, strength and endurance. Victories. Parlor tricks. Inspiration. And many many friendships.
The underlying theme in all that we attempt and achieve is a commitment to ourselves and to the group. Individually and collectively, our successes are staggering. As they used to say in that advertising campaign, “You’ve come a long way baby.”
So, in the middle of all of this holiday celebrating, let’s stop for a moment and reflect on the goals we’ve realized this year and what we are reaching for in 2008.
To everyone in the Ice Chamber family, Happy New Year.

Thank you for bringing us all together Shari! Wow, 2007 has been a year to remember, for sure.
Hey, can I just say… Go Stephanie! Woo-hoo!
It was a major accomplishment in 2007 to find a form of exercise that I truly enjoy enough to get up at 5:30 for on a regular basis! Not to mention one that I’m willing to make extra sacrifices for (hair cuts!) so that I can pay for it.
I just want to keep on keeping on in 2008… My goal is to keep working towards 2010, when I turn 40, when I plan to be in the best shape I’ve ever been!
And a pull-up this year would be nice!
Happy New Year, and thank you, to everyone at the IC.
2007 brought a HUGE change for you (Maya) and Steve! Congrats on sweet Mateo and the growing success of the IC!
I will get to my goal weight, have a real pull up or two, climb a mountain, and keep me as a priority in each day of 08. and, keep me out of my comfort zone when I come to the IC.
The friends and trainers that have enriched my life this year at the IC-thanks bunches!
Happy New Year!
What a wonderful and invigorating year it was! 2007 was all the rage because of the support, awesome teamwork and great friendships fostered with all the ICer’s…Thank you Maya, Steve, Kelly, and Mani for creating such a space. May 2008 be the year of joy, surprises and all dreams and goals coming true!
I really enjoyed looking through the archives and being reminded of what a tremendous year it was.
Achievements:
- stopped eating carbs.
- lost weight and found some muscle
- climbed the rope, more than once
- got my first pull-up and then a few more
- rode up Spruce and Grizzly Peak
- taught my kid that hard work and determination not only have huge payoffs, but they are damn satisfying too.
Goals? Let’s see.
1. 15 pull-ups
2. a couple of dead hang pull-ups
3. beat my deadlift, push-press and bench press record
4. refine and perfect my clean (really, any improvement on my clean would be welcomed)
5. gulp. get my 1000m row time below 4 minutes
6. improve my climbing technique
7. bike the reservoir
8. kill my inner-critic once and for all
Thanks to everyone at the IC who makes goals like this remotely possible.
What a great post Shari and what a great year! So many records to break in 2008. I can’t wait!
Thanks for the year in review Shari. Great stuff. Looking forward to the rising of the sun.
For 2007, I just wanted to be in better shape. A year of IC later, been there, done that. Now, I’m aspiring to do one – just ONE, dammit! – pull-up. After that, who knows?
Awesome post Shari! 2007 has been a great one for me, and much of it due to the IC. I can’t wait to see what ‘08 brings!
