“Like so many brave mothers before me, adjusting to being a sleep-deprived-post-surgery-nursing-new-mom in addition to wife, business owner, and trainer has not been easy for me. I don’t know where I’d be today without my faith in the great powers of the universe. I agreed to capture my postpartum training days on video in order to show the reality—good and bad—of this humbling time in my life.” Click here to read more…

Maya…I think I have a girl crush on you. What an inspirational video.
You are amazing Maya. The intensity you have when you are working out gives me shivers. And waddya mean that six pack ain’t as good as before? It looks awesome to me. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you.
Holy Shit is right! Did you say “the good and bad”? I didn’t see any bad, Maya. Just one bad ass chick that looked like she was going like the Energizer Bunny for over a year straight! Maybe we should have seen shot of you taking a nap in there somewhere. Wow, humbling stuff.
I am totally choked up – DANG! Thank you so much for sharing your story – you are FIERCE!!!! Maya, seriously, you are an inspiration and a terrific motivator………and really, really nice to boot. You got the bod AND the kid to beat all kids – you deserve it!!!
Ditto to all of the praise that the others have written. Maya, your journey and strength are amazing and so FIERCE! You are a champion through and through. Can’t wait to hear more on the 14th!
sniff! sniff! I’m writing as i’m crying and crying as i write…you just confirmed why you are my hero…that video was awesome! thank you for being you and Mateo is the cutest!
Maya…you are truly amazing, as well as my inspiration.
Maya, your journey has been so incredibly inspiring for everyone, no matter how far into this post-partum/motherhood thing (or not) we are. I can not even remember you looking like your “before” picture perhaps because I knew it would be temporary. But it was hard work and I love that you show it in all its intensity. You are my hero simply for the ferocity with which you approach life (well that and what a bad ass you are, how nice you are, and your integirty). I salute you!
you put the HOT in mama!
thank you.
Maya, you’re simply AWESOME. By the way, can I have your abs?
Freakin amazing… much love!
MAYA!!! omigoodness! yet another reason why i love coming to the IC. everything about you and what you represent is life changing. thank you for sharing your “gift.” mateo not only has a great name…he is so incredibly adorable!
I just keep thinking about one word…..Mayalicious!
Awesome, and awe inspiring.
Thank you for sharing this personal conquest.
So many people can draw inspiration from this… including the partners who gain the sympathy weight!
We are disappointed that your workshop is scheduled on the first day of our vacation! (Sounds like you developed it with us in mind!).
We are so lucky to have you in our lives!
Your video made me cry. You are such an inspiration Maya. And I would kill for your post-baby abs!! I’m so glad I found IC and you and Steven. I did my first bootcamp class in June 2007 – so with my one year anniversary, I’ve been doing some reflecting on my old ways and my new ways. What a difference you’ve made in the lives of so many!
HOLY GUACAMOLE Maya! I’m sitting here with sore abs, sore arms, sore everything post-IC workout and watching this is just so inspiring. Thanks for being your bad self and for rocking it out. You are AMAZING!!!!!! What a tough cookie. Brava!!!!!
The newsletter and video were so perfectly timed for me to read/watch as I stood, decompressing from work and snarfing leftover burrito and chicken nuggets from my kids’ plates. Hmmm. Emotional eating habits? Not me.
Our 6-year old friend Kiera watched the video 3 times and kept saying “that girl is so cool” and she’s decided to try kettlebell when she’s 20 (so it doesn’t drop on her toe).
You’re motivating them young and old, Maya!
Congratulations on this awesome milestone in your journey. Your strength and conditioning is an incredible accomplishment and your enthusiasm is hugely motivational. Thank you.
You go, girl!
ps: the vision of you jumping across the floor with the barbell on your shoulders was running through my mind as we were rippling that heavy-assed rope at bootcamp this morning. I just kept thinking “I do want it bad enough to keep doing this…” You’ve set a high bar!
Thank you all for the positive vibes and kind words. Maya was very apprehensive about making this project. She is definitely not one to publicize her own body image. In fact, if it was up to Maya, this video would not have been produced. As nonchalant as she may appear, the truth is that having her body being publicly scrutinized is a very big deal. If you know my wife at all, her most distinguished attribute is her humility. So getting her to do this was no small feat.
Fortunately, I was able to convince her that the video might help ignite the fires of a few moms out there looking for inspiration… Your comments and emails have really helped ease her anxiety about this whole thing.
p.s. did anyone notice the obsessive vacuuming?
Yay, Maya! I just shared this with some other moms at my work…even without knowing you, they were so inspired (and more than a little blown away by the pullup with the kettlebell). I was, like many other IC’ers, all choked up watching this. I thank you for sharing this and being brave enough to let us all see the work behind the progress we’ve all seen. I sure wish Els and I could come to the workshop, but we’ll be in Mexico. Any chance there will be a second time? Big love and many thanks, T
The buzz on the IC street today was this video. Especially Maya’s abs! It provides inspiration to all of moms/non-moms alike. Those abs are beautiful with or without having had a baby. Did someone say this is a myth buster? The myth being that it is “easy” to get back in shape post birth. Now everyone knows what the celebrity mamas do to get in shape. Maya is the REAL celebrity.
Maya- thank you for sharing this with everyone. Hooray for you! Be a proud bikini wearing mama!
Dear Editing Master Steve- isn’t obsessive vacuuming a workout routine? Great work putting this together and convincing Maya to let you show it. It will be something you’ll love having to look at in years to come…
You two – what an amazing gift to all moms, future moms and anyone at all who aspires to achieve something monumental.
MayMay, you totally rock. What a great video to share. I think it brings great inspiration to all ICer’s!!! Thanks for allowing the video to blogged and be very proud of yourself.
Thanks for sharing this Maya. It is truly inspirational and a great way to start my second go at the Ice Chamber.
Thank you Maya for always being such a source of inspiration. It’s so touching that you have shared your journey with us. It really is a touching video. You are a remarkable woman
Maya you are truly amazing! Always remember how powerful your gifts are. Thanks for bringing so much light to all of our lives…xoxo
Let me add my sincere praise to the heaps you’ve already received. That video took guts. Fierce. Yes, that’s exactly the right word. Fierce. And amazing. And inspiring.
I now have you hopping across the floor with a barbell resting on your shoulders playing over and over in my head! I can’t believe (well actually I can) you did/do that!
Maya – sounds to me like you got it all!
And you prove that women who train are cool!!!
Alan
Maya
I couldn’t possibly add anything that everyoe hasn’t already said, but I just wanted to say that you are AMAZING. Thank you for sharing.
Maya, your inspiration to all of us is never-ending (thus all the powerful words on this page)…. you are absolutely an amazing woman – thanks for sharing your incredible story – once again you have showed us by example what we are all capable of accomplishing….. Go Maya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoo Hoo!!
Oh, my gosh Maya! I am totally awed by this video of your training. What an inspiration.
Thank YOU!
I cried watching this video because a) Maya is amazing, and b) I’ve been coming on and off to the Chamber for several years now and still can’t do a pushup and haven’t really lost weight. I really want to come to the workshop on the 14th, but I hate crying in front of people and know I will. I’ll sign up anyways, and prepare the kleenex. Truth be told, I’ve been a total slacker of late, but that is going to change.
A compelling portrait of tenacity and courage – I am definitely definitely inspired. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Oops, I meant I can’t do a pullup. pushups i can do!
Thanks Jennifer!
Maya! YOU ARE SOOOO AMAZING! What an amazing video! I miss you guys so much. Just returned from South America! It was amazing. Wish I could be back working out with you and soaking up all your love! XOXO. Jill
Maya! omg! I’m in tears. you are SUCH an AMAZING woman and totally inspired me. I just had DD seven months ago and have been struggling to loose these last 40 pounds. I was getting so discouraged thinking I cant have my old body back (which happened to look very much like your pre-preg body as well). You just gave me so much hope! God Bless You for sharing your journey with all of us. You really are an inspiration.
