ICKB girls

After two months of production time, we’re excited to bring you a mini-documentary highlighting the IC Kettlebell Girls’ training and competition adventures. This 7 minute movie captures the sweat, blood, tears, and joy of our team in action. See what it took the team to make it to the 2008 IKFF/NAKF National Meet in Michigan.

We would like to give thanks to some very special people for directly helping us excel in this remarkable sport: Valery Fedorenko, Catherine Imes, Steve Cotter, Ken Blackburn, Eric Liford, Jon Hoskins, Marty Farrell, Kevin Jodrey, Bonnie Carlson, & C-Duff. These folks are not only amazing athletes and teachers, but also pioneers of Kettlebell Sport in the U.S.

A big shout also goes to the organizations that have made it possible for us to train and compete: AKC, IKFF, NAKF, Athleta, and APT.

Finally, to all the amazing people of the IC, thank you for the love you continue to exhibit towards bellin’…

Enjoy the movie!

Weight Loss Winner: Craig Sterry

Monday, September 29th, 2008

craigsterry

Craig is our greatest weight loss WINNER to date. He joined Bootcamp in 2006 and is walking around 60 pounds lighter today. Craig once weighed 360 pounds. He has not had bariatric surgery. Craig does not follow a strange no-carb diet nor is he on weight loss medication. He earned every pound he lost by making healthier food choices and through good old exercise. Most importantly, his wife Stephanie says he has a totally different attitude about health and fitness today. Craig weighed in at 216 this week. He has lost 144 pounds total and every week he continues to move forward.

In addition to his training with us, Craig now bikes to and from work (20 miles) everyday. He is currently putting his IC skills to the test in our first-ever Couples Decathlon as well as the upcoming KB meet. Stay tuned to the IC blog for more updates about Craig’s incredible journey…

As a result of his hard work, Craig just won six months of Bootcamp at no cost. Congratulations Champ!

Wendy and the Weight Loss Challenge

Wendy Magis has flown under the radar for 19 months here at the IC. She started using only 8 lb. dumbbells in Bootcamp and is now regularly pressing the 25s. What we can all learn from Wendy is that consistency and focus are key. She has rarely missed a class in over a year. She never lets a crowded room or an unpleasant workout get in the way of her positive training attitude. Today, she is often one of the top performers of Team 0700 and she even has a hidden six-pack under that shirt (Wendy was too shy to show it off). Most importantly, she is another hard-working mama who has successfully achieved her fitness goals: weight loss and strength gain.

We are proud to announce that Wendy is our new representative for the “30-and-over Club” …only this has nothing to do with age. We have been secretly conducting our IC Weight Loss Challenge behind the scenes. (It’s too late to enter now. Registration closed months ago.) We wanted to create a unique opportunity for the silent soldiers of the IC to be acknowledged for their incredible dedication to health and fitness. Wendy is our official runner-up! …and so is every individual at the IC who has lost 30+ pounds while training here.

The GRAND PRIZE and WINNER of the IC Weight Loss Challenge will be announced on Monday September 29, 2008 via email so don’t forget to check your in-boxes.

Congratulations to Wendy and to every IC member out there making their dreams a reality!

Here Comes the Bride

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Sara finally got the ICKB competition team out of their wrist wraps for her big wedding day last weekend. Who would ever guess that this gorgeous bride is such a rugged beller in real life? Don’t forget, Sara is also one of our fastest indoor rowers. What we have learned about Sara throughout the course of knowing her for the past five years (a.k.a 35 pounds ago) is that when she puts her mind on something, she gives it 100% of herself. Her wedding was no exception; Sara’s hard work made her one of the most beautiful brides ever!

Congratulations to Sara and Johnny who tied the knot after nine years together!

The IC Couples Decathlon officially started today. Three handsome hubbies from 6 a.m. (Seth, Dave, and Craig) stepped up to the 2000 meter challenge. The wives of 7 a.m. took over the ergs in order to defend their family honor. We will not be releasing the official scores until October 18th, but we’ll leave you with this teaser: Craig (pictured above with his wife Stephanie) reached a personal best this morning… and he was already pretty darn fast! Stay tuned…

The C-Duff Factor

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

C Duff

Our friend and Bostonian comedian, Chris Duffy, came into town last week. Chris is a competitive KB sport athlete who won his division in the Biathlon at the IKFF/NAKF Nationals in July. He brought along his daughter Bridget for a training session with the IC Competition Team. At the end of training, Chris convinced us to pose for a Kettlebell commercial ;-)

He also managed to demonstrate an amazing set of Snatches before he left: 95 reps in 6 minutes using the 24kgs.

We want to thank Chris for stopping by and helping us fine tune some details in the Traditional Lifts!
