Inspired by Jeremy Steinkoler’s vision of a challenge for all of the IC couples, we are in the early phases of organizing the official IC Couples Decathlon. We’ve already received confirmation from many of our IC All-Stars (Renee & Rune, Loredie & Ross, Lisa & Tim, Michelle & Jeremy, to name a few). We suspect that there will be more than twenty couples competing.
At this point, we need your help to decide what ten events would make for a good challenge. Please enter your submissions to the comments section. Once we have enough submissions for the events, we will devise a formula to calculate the winning factors.

On another note, Jeremy will be playing with Mo’Fone at Yoshi’s next week! Be sure to check out this amazing group of musicians:

ooooooooooooooooh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David & I are totally in, too!
We’re looking forward to seeing Mo’Fone on Monday!
Great idea for the decathlon! Here’s my list:
500m row
2k row
push-ups in 1 minute
sit-ups in 1 minute
a timed running thing (bridal store and back?)
pull-ups
plank (max time)
rope climb (timed)
Hollow hold (max time)
obstacle course (timed)
I hope my hubby is healthy by then and can compete. I don’t think it would be good for the relationship to have a sub!
I had no idea! Oh god, I fear I will be seeing the dark side ALOT, cuz, you know, Rune doesn’t push himself at all :0 or his partner!
What the #@$! ? I had no idea too. Did Ross sign me up for this? I thought we were just taking video clips of couples chillin’, being happy and relaxed at the IC.
Renee, I feel for you. I will be joining you at the dark side.
Loredie, I only know Ross from IC, but I think it’s safe to say Ross is always up for a challenge!
As a solo flyer at the IC, I can appreciate the level of competition from afar. Phew.
Here’s my list (taking injuries and accessibility into consideration, of course):
Deadlift (1 RM)
500m row
push-ups in 1 minute
sit-ups in 1 minute
pushing Steve’s truck around the parking lot
plank (max time)
KB long cycle (max reps)
push-press (1 RM)
wrist-roller
squat hold (max time)
oh, and if the truck was a one time thing, then bust out the tires for a tires sled race
Loredie-
we’ll be sporting new t shirts soon
What a fun event idea. How about…Bring-Your-”Bride”-To-The-Bridal-Store-And-Back-On-Your-Back!
Wow, those are some great ideas John, Shari, and S&C. I was thinking about some athletic challenge that involved the children…. hmmm. I’ll most likely have to experiment with Mateo first and see how it goes.
oh, and don’t forget rope wars
How about pulling the truck with a rope from the seated position with the kids in the driver’s seat (engine off of course). The way, the children can see Mom reeling them in. I think it would be very cool.
To clarify, bridal store and back idea is Sherry’s. Fellas, don’t hate on me.
I just re-read Sherry’s idea: Bring-Your-”Bride”-To-The-Bridal-Store-And-Back-On-Your-Back!
… I totally missed the part about coming BACK… okay, that’s like 400 meters. 200 meters I can see, but 400 meters may cause a lot of pain for the fellas.
Sherry, you are sick.
Wow, it hurts to even look at Shari’s list. If Kim is still hurt, I’m calling you.
The pushing Steve’s truck around is a little odd though, and then the Steve thing about the kids sitting in the truck sounds like school carpooling. I think someone’s just trying to save on thier gas bill.
Something missing from the decathlon is one of those wierd Jess DB bosu experiences, where you have to stand on the upside down bosu while doing something that would be hard on solid ground.
Kim would be happy for me to carry her to the bridal shop until about half way there, and then certain that she could do better, would demand to carry me instead. I guess that’s all part of the couples decathlon sociology.
I like this decathlon idea!
John,
Jeremy said he is taking you out to drink the night before. Watch out it’s getting competitive around here.
John, if Kim is still injured, I might consider being your surrogate wife. Wish you had mentioned that before I put together my list.
Um, Steve, don’t you remember that experimenting with Mateo is neither “cute or funny?” For some reason, I keep hearing Maya’s voice ringing out “Get my baby down from there.”
Oh, what about high box jumping – that’s a fun one?
Speaking of high boxes – will Jess and Jeff compete?
let me give you Rune’s schedule so you’ll know exactly when to hold this event. No better you tell me and then I’m sure he’ll be working, wink, wink!
A new form of couples therapy right?
I do like the kids watching part since Annakari loved swim team but didn’t like the swim meets-just ask any OPP swim team parent and they will confirm! – Yeah, she didn’t like them because she wanted to touch first. I’m sure she’s gets it from her father!
I love this idea! (Not least because my husband wouldn’t be caught dead at the IC, so I’m totally off the hook.)
Steve – if you want to get the kids in on the act, I like the idea of # of pushups in 1 minute with kid on back…I’ve seen a lot of photos of IC dads and moms practicing that one.
ok, now that I see the list…
I SCARED!!!!
for any times events, please DO NOT let Jess be the timekeeper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Confirmed Shari–experimenting with Mateo is neither cute or funny. I love the rest of the ideas though (especially the “bridal” store run and truck pushing)!
Hmmm… the decathlon measures all around athletic ability, including mastering technique, etc…. So there needs to be sprinting, endurance, upper and lower body strength, technique.
I like Shari’s list. All about tire sled races.
Umm, does divorce qualify as an automatic exemption?
Loredie, that is good thinking.
Let me know if you find a good quickie divorce lawyer who can give us a 2-for-1 deal.
As long as I get the kid & kettlebells in the settlement, I’ll be happy…
Mo’Fone was awesome tonight! Nice job Jeremy!
OK, we (Tracy and Tom) will most likely get totally creamed, but we’re in. It sounds like quality-good-time-together-FUN!
Date? Time? Kids OK hanging out in the “video room”?
If you include using your kids might that be an incentive to hold back on feeding them? Lets see, I do a modified push press with my kids. Bear crawl with them on my back, crab walk with them on my stomach. I like the idea of the Bride on Back to the Bridal shop and back. Also, maybe some sort of wheelbarrow race maybe with the evil wheel.
