Congratulations to all the IC runners who crossed the Nike Women’s finish line today!

Did all those miles pay off as planned? Runners, please share some of your special moments with us all!

Here’s Tracy C. with her Tiffany necklace.

Great job to all the IC Runners. Your hard training paid off. Thank you all for representing so well
what you are all fantastic! Congrats!
I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful and helpful you have been on my Marathon day- Steve and Maya, you are the ultimate continued solid support for all endeavors athletic and I appreciate you so much! (I have much more to say to you two – tip of the iceberg) Leslie, Ann and Rachel, you are awesome and absolutely adorable–thank you for the in-the-dark-still ride!! You set the tone for fun! Nani and Lulit, it was fun trying to keep up w. you – I was absolutely thrilled to see you along the way foxy ladies – you inspired me. I can’t wait to hear your experience running all you IC Gals. Oliver, what can I say – you are the best. Riding along the way on your bike and popping up along the route w. such energy and joy – you are the bomb, as kids say (are they still saying that?)
I scored an aprox 5 hour run, 200th-something for my age-group and a 2000th-something out of 20,000 over-all runners – I have to check official results again…….
I am humbled by your loving support.
xoxoxoxox,
Tracy
well, I feel a bit strange about claiming the IC women’s running club since I never actually made it to an event or training run…
but Susan (essbee) & I ran together– it was fun! perfect running weather, nice course & lots of amenities!
congrats everyone!!!
What an experience! Other than the four I started with (which I lost on the first hill!), I only saw Erin pass my on another hill. Erin, thanks for the smile and pat on the back – I needed it. Everytime I saw a bicyclist, I was hoping it was Oliver but alas I didn’t get to see him! The funnest part of the race was that Sherry Deng and I found each other in the last 50 feet and got to cross the finish line together after each doing the rest of the race alone. That was cool! Thanks Heidy, Surya and Jess for the support. Bear, you’re the best because I couldn’t have done it at all without your help all these months. Great to see Serena & Turbo at the start line!
What a great race. I love that photo of Jess and I (she is actually holding me up in this pic)!! Can you believe she made me sprint all the hills though it was more of a light jog for her. It was so funny because everyone pulled behind me from some reason on the first hill and now I know why- Jess was in the drivers seat… Hehehe
Awsome job everyone. Sorry to miss Oliver too but glad he found Tracy C during probably the toughest marathon miles.
P.S. Sorry we missed the 2 hour mark Jess but it was only by a minute-2:01 is not to bad for 13.1 miles in SF.
I promise next time to not do KB training before…
Steve and Maya – everyone loved my IC temporary tatoo I was sporting – a leftover from the taco party a couple of years ago. I think we need some more!
Congratulations to everyone!
What a great time! I never thought I could run that far, especially with the limited amount of training I was able to do after my injuries healed. But I felt great the whole time and finished faster than I expected. I got all choked up at the finish and couldn’t hug any firefighter because I was afraid I would burst into tears!
Patty Harper is my hero – she drove me to the run in the dark, found a great parking spot and fought her way to our starting section. But, mostly, I am thankful because she ran with me. This might not sound like a big deal but since I never made it to any of the training runs, I didn’t have a running buddy. She appeared as my savior last week and I am eternally grateful for her company.
I had a great time coming upon Erin, Jess and Jenny around mile 1 and trying to keep up with them as they chased Erin’s friend who was trying to qualify for the NY marathon. I also loved running into Suzanne at the finish, after she came back from soaking her legs in the Pacific! And I loved the fact that Kinichiwa Bitches was on my IPod as I crossed the finish, putting the IC in my mind, (which is where it should be, as I couldn’t have done this without all the amazing training). Thank you Steve, Maya and Jess for preparing me to accomplish this goal!
But the best moment of all was the big hug I got from Etta, who said “I’m proud of you mommy.” And then asked me if she could run a race with me some day. Oh, now I’m getting all welled-up again.
These are great stories. Thank you all for sharing. I want to give a shout out to Julie B. who did all the training runs but was unable to participate in the race due to respiratory sickness. She’s a die-hard IC warrior that motivated many to run this race.
Great work IC runners!!!
Wow– you guys got me. All the stories of people taking care of each other out there are amazing. I was expecting to hear about bloody nipples and emergency bathroom breaks.
Erin, thank you for the volunteer time and effort you put into the training and mass communication for the group runs. We are all so grateful to you!
it just shows, IC women are all incredible athletes and teammates.
Hey guys,
As someone who has traditionally been the anchor-woman (i.e. picked last) for almost every gym class, race, and intra-mural event in my life, it was an incredible experience to wear the team shirt and run with you guys. I saw sea lions playing off of aquatic park! And I got to run downhill (so fast! so light!) for over two miles! Special thanks to Leslie and Rachel especially for their faith in me and of course to Steve and Maya for the muscles , Erin for the organization, Shari for the web updates, and everyone for their funny, inclusive and positive attitudes. And for the first time in a race, I wasn’t even within shouting distance of last! Yahoo!
This was a pretty incredible event. This is another amazing example to me of how friendly and supportive the entire IC population is. Everyone I talked to and said, ‘ugh, not sure if I can do it…haven’t trained for it’ replied ‘you can do it! go for it!’ That, along with my general IC training, carried me all the way.
I am also grateful for hooking up with Shari in the week before the race. She has such a positive and determined attitude that definitely pulled me over the finish line. She was an inspiration throughout…offering coaching tips she gained from Jess for getting up the hills, the race landscape lowdown from Sara and her own little sweet nothings…like “you are NOT going to puke!” And late in the race when I bonked, she cranked and that definitely kept me going and motivated me to cross the finish line. Awesome. Wish I had some actual pictures, but instead will have to rely on the mental snapshot of a victorious Shari as one hot, strong-looking ring ding in her silver blanket.
It takes a village to run a half marathon! Thanks everyone.
What a fun race! The best part was seeing dear Brenda at the very end. Brenda, we were meant to finish together! I felt like a big salt lick at the end there.
I am so proud of everyone! The pictures are great and I wish I could have seen more of you at the end! The Ice Chamber has trained us all well (hills are no problem for our strong quads!). Thanks to Steve and Maya for nurturing such a wonderful community. I hope we can all do it again next year!
Great job everyone! 13 miles is no joke – you should all be proud of yourselves for finishing. I can’t believe some of you sprinted the hills!
Brenda! Where were you? I could’ve ran with you I was all by myself
. Maya…let me tell you about bloody nipples….OMG!!! Around the 10th mile I wanted to die, my legs were cramping up and it was freezing and to top it off my period made an apperance…yes fellas I know I am sharing too much, but hey what can I say I do not have a mute button. All in all I had a great time and can’t wait for next year to do it again.
YEAH!! Rock it Ladies! I was with you in spirit! You should all be very, very proud of yourselves. Well done!
I love the pictures and I love hearing the stories! I wish I could have joined everyone. I wonder what people though seeing all those IC running tanks
I want to echo all of the thanks to Erin and Shari, Maya and Steve. This was by far one of the best things I’ve ever done. Without the support of everyone at the IC, I am absolutely sure that I NEVER would have completed that race.
Rachel Q. and Julie B. were my constant training buddies. Rachel Q. ran the first 11 with me, letting me call all of the shots, all of the breaks, and let me set the (excruciatingly slow) pace. True generosity. And Julie B. ran all of the long training runs with me – 13, 15, 16, 18 miles! – even though it was not in her training plan. Incredible. I would not have made it without those 2 women. AND my best friend Amy drove all the way from Colorado to meet me at the finish line.
I will never forget this experience. Ever.
What’s with the bloody nipple ladies? Sounds painful. Turbo, sorry your period decided to make an appearance. How rude!
Turbo and mmmars…great to hear from you!
Bear and Jess, Etta tells me she saw you guys run by. Well, actually, she said, “Mama, I saw Jess and Bear Bear (I love that she calls you this) run by right before you ran by. I cheered for them too.”
Bloody nipples – did you ever see the Office episode where they have the “Rabies Run?” Ouch!
Turbo,
That’s way too much information.
Sorry Steve, but you know I like to share.
By the way did I mention that I miss the hell out of everyone.
